How to Pitch Your Song to Spotify Editorial Playlists

Spotify's editorial playlists are curated by human editors, and every artist can pitch to them for free through Spotify for Artists. There is no backdoor and no fee. What matters is timing, accuracy, and a pitch that tells the editor exactly what the song is and who it is for.
The deadline that matters most
You must submit your pitch at least 7 days before your release date. Spotify itself recommends pitching 4 to 6 weeks in advance so editors have real time to listen. You can only pitch one song from an upcoming release, and once the song goes live it is no longer eligible for pitching. That is why your release schedule needs lead time built in: a track delivered to Spotify days before release leaves no room for an editorial pitch at all.
How to submit the pitch
Log in to Spotify for Artists, go to the Music tab, select Upcoming, and choose Pitch a Song for the track you want to submit. You will fill in a form covering the song's genre and subgenre, mood, theme, instrumentation, language, and cultural context, plus a short written description for the editorial team. Treat every field as useful information, not paperwork. The more precisely you describe the track, the easier it is for an editor to hear where it fits.
Writing a pitch that gets read
Editors review thousands of submissions a week, so generic praise wastes your one shot. Skip lines like "this is my best song ever." Instead, give concrete context: what the song is about, what inspired it, any live momentum or notable placements, and how your audience reacted to previews. If a specific playlist feels like a natural home, you can say so in the description. Be honest and specific; editors can tell the difference.
What happens if you are not picked
Pitching still helps even without a placement. The details you provide give Spotify extra descriptive metadata it can use to recommend your music to the right listeners. And any unreleased song you pitch in time is automatically added to your followers' Release Radar when it goes live, even if no editor picks it. Missing the pitch window forfeits that automatic placement, which is reason enough to pitch every release.
