How to Get Your Music on Instagram Reels and TikTok Sounds

When a fan adds your song to a Reel or a TikTok, that is free promotion you cannot buy. But your music only appears in those apps' sound libraries if you deliver it there. Instagram and TikTok do not accept uploads from artists directly; your distributor sends your releases to their music libraries for you.
Step 1: Deliver through your distributor
When you submit a release to your distributor, make sure TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are selected as delivery destinations alongside the streaming services. Your distributor then delivers your tracks to TikTok's general music library and to Meta's music library, which powers Instagram and Facebook. This is a delivery choice, not a separate upload, so set it at release time rather than trying to add it later.
Step 2: Check your song is findable
On TikTok, open the app, tap the search icon, type your artist name and track title, and switch to the Sounds tab. Your track should appear there, and tapping it shows posts that have already used it. On Instagram, create a Reel, open the audio browser, and search for your song the same way. If a track does not appear, allow a few days after release for the libraries to update, then ask your distributor to check the delivery status.
Step 3: Use your own sound first
The fastest way to seed a sound is to use it yourself. Post a TikTok with your track added through the Add Sound button, and post Reels using your own audio. Ask fans to make videos with it. A sound with existing videos attached is far more likely to be picked up by other creators than one with zero uses.
Know the business-account limits
Business accounts on TikTok and Instagram do not get the full music library. They are limited to commercial music libraries, and tracks delivered to the general library may show as not licensed for commercial use on those accounts. This is a platform rule to stop brands using songs in ads without a licence. If you run a business account and need your own song available on it, ask your distributor about safelisting your releases for specific business accounts.
One more rule: a sound licensed inside TikTok or Instagram is licensed for that app only. Downloading a Reel or TikTok and re-uploading it elsewhere with the same audio is not covered by that licence.
