DistroKid's Hidden Fees Indian Artists Miss (Leave a Legacy, Content ID & More)
DistroKid's $24.99/year headline price looks unbeatable — until the add-ons stack up. Here's every extra charge DistroKid doesn't put on the pricing page, and what they mean for Indian artists.
1. Leave a Legacy: $29 per single, $49 per album
This is the big one. If you cancel your DistroKid subscription, your music gets taken down from all platforms — unless you've paid for "Leave a Legacy" on every release. At $29 per single, an artist with 10 singles pays $290 just to keep their existing catalog alive after cancelling. Without it, years of work vanish the day you stop paying.
2. YouTube Content ID: $4.95 per single per year
DistroKid's base plan does NOT include YouTube Content ID. It's a $4.95/year add-on per single — and DistroKid keeps 20% of the YouTube revenue it collects. For Indian artists, where YouTube is often the biggest platform, this is not optional.
3. Withdrawal fees via Tipalti
DistroKid pays through Tipalti with a $6 minimum — but getting money to an Indian bank account costs $5.62 per transfer, PayPal withdrawals add ~2%, and currency conversion can take up to another 3%. Small payouts get eaten alive.
4. Scheduled release dates: Plus plans only
Want to pick your release date? That's only on higher tiers. The basic $24.99 plan releases whenever DistroKid gets around to it — bad news if you're coordinating a Friday release with promo.
5. Two artists costs $44.99, 100 costs $89.99
The $24.99 plan covers one artist name. Collaborations under different names, side projects, or label rosters push you to higher tiers fast.

One artist, 5 singles, Content ID on all of them, Leave a Legacy for protection: $24.99 + (5 × $4.95) + (5 × $29) = $194.74 — nearly 8x the headline price. Add withdrawal fees on top.
Support: tickets and bots
