Concert Promoters in India: Who Puts On the Big Shows

Concert Promoters in India: Who Puts On the Big Shows

When 50,000 people watch a stadium show in India, someone had to book the artist, rent the venue, sell the tickets, handle security, and make sure the sound works. That someone is the concert promoter. India's live music boom has created a small group of promoters who now bring the world's biggest acts to Indian stages. Here is who they are.

BookMyShow Live

BookMyShow Live is the live entertainment division of BookMyShow, India's largest online entertainment ticketing platform. It promotes large-format tours and festivals, including Lollapalooza India, and has brought acts including Coldplay, Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighters, and The Chainsmokers to India. It also runs Sunburn, the electronic music festival, through a sister company, and its domestic business TribeVibe promotes Indian acts. BookMyShow's parent company reported consolidated net profit of Rs 192 crore for the fiscal year ended March 2025, with live events revenue growing sharply.

Live Nation

Live Nation is the world's largest live entertainment company, and it co-produces major India tours — including Diljit Dosanjh's RuPay Aura India Tour 2026, which was co-produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live and Live Nation across Delhi-NCR, Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Chandigarh. Live Nation's involvement signals that India is now part of global touring routes, not an afterthought.

District Live, Eva Live, and Skillbox

District Live, backed by Zomato, is another major player in India's live events space, competing with BookMyShow across ticketing and shows. Eva Live and Skillbox are also active promoters and event companies working to grow the concert economy, alongside venues like the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, which host auditorium concerts.

What promoters actually do

A promoter takes the financial risk. They pay the artist a guarantee, book the venue, handle production, marketing, ticketing, and permissions, and keep what is left after costs. If the show flops, the promoter absorbs the loss. That is why promoters are cautious about new markets — and why India's promoters spent years proving the market before global acts started routing through it regularly.

Why it matters for artists

For Indian artists, a healthy promoter ecosystem means more stages to play, from club shows to stadiums. Building relationships with promoters — and proving you can sell tickets — is how a local act graduates to bigger rooms. Promoters follow data: streaming numbers, ticket history, and social momentum all feed into who gets booked.
