Ariana Grande: The Vocal Powerhouse Who Conquered Pop

Ariana Grande: The Vocal Powerhouse Who Conquered Pop

Ariana Grande-Butera was born on June 26, 1993, in Boca Raton, Florida. She began her career at age 15 in the Broadway musical 13 (2008), then rose to fame as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon series Victorious (2010–2013) and its spin-off Sam & Cat (2013–2014). She signed with Republic Records in 2011 — and went on to become one of the defining pop voices of her generation, known for a four-octave vocal range that extends into the whistle register.

From Nickelodeon to Number One

Grande's debut album, Yours Truly (2013), topped the US Billboard 200, led by the single "The Way." Her second album, My Everything (2014), brought the global hits "Problem," "Break Free," and "Bang Bang." Dangerous Woman (2016) solidified her as a pop heavyweight with songs like "Into You" and "Side to Side."

The Imperial Phase: Sweetener to Positions

Her fourth album, Sweetener (2018), won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Thank U, Next (2019) broke streaming records and made Grande the first solo artist to simultaneously occupy the top three positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Positions (2020) debuted at number one, and her collaboration "Rain on Me" with Lady Gaga won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. In total, she has won two Grammy Awards.

Wicked and the Second Act

After her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine (2024), Grande returned to acting, playing Glinda in the two-part film adaptation of Wicked — Wicked (2024) and Wicked: For Good (2025) — opposite Cynthia Erivo. Her performance earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, and the film collectively grossed over $1 billion worldwide. She also founded the cosmetics brand r.e.m. beauty in 2021.

Grande's catalogue also includes the RIAA diamond-certified "Bang Bang," recorded with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, and the singles "One Last Time" and "Side to Side." She returned to acting with the political satire Don't Look Up (2021) before taking on Wicked. Her r.e.m. beauty brand, founded in 2021, is a vegan, cruelty-free cosmetics line. Few pop stars have balanced music, film, and business across so many fronts at once.

Legacy

Ariana Grande's career is a masterclass in vocal excellence and reinvention. From child actress to pop superstar to film star, she has moved between worlds without ever losing the voice that made her famous.
